DESCRIPTION:“Hits with the force of a spiritual awakening” – STEREOGUM \nRed Baraat Festival of Colors is an immersive celebration that melds the sounds of the South Asian diaspora with kaleidoscopic visual imagery. Led by dhol player Sunny Jain\, Red Baraat has transformed the festive spirit of the Hindu holiday of Holi into a year-round tour of communal revelry that brings together what NPR has called “the best party band in years\,” a montage of classic Bollywood visuals\, and joyful dancing. \nAt the core of Festival of Colors is Red Baraat’s singular sound: a merging of hard driving North Indian bhangra music with elements of hip hop\, jazz\, and raw punk energy. Created with no less a purposeful agenda than manifesting joy and unity in all people\, the band’s spirit is worn brightly on its sweaty and hard-worked sleeve. \nTraditionally\, Holi is marked by public gatherings of families and strangers sharing songs\, dance\, and the exchange of “colors” – colorful powders playfully thrown amongst crowds of revelers. DESCRIPTION:VENUE CHANGE ALERT: Due to an air-conditioning system malfunction in the main theatre at The Columbus Theatre\, this performance has been moved to The Strand Ballroom and Theatre at 79 Washington Street in Downtown Providence. \n\n					DakhaBrakha is touring tirelessly and playing concerts throughout the world to support Ukraine. The group encourages your donations to Razom (which means “Together” in Ukrainian)\, a nonprofit dedicated to providing relief efforts in Ukraine. You can support those relief efforts here at Razom’s donation page.\n“From the first moment the group starts performing\, it’s hard not to get caught up in the magic it weaves. … utter brilliance.”\n-NPR’s Bob Boilen \nA sonic feast as well as a visual spectacle\, Kyiv’s DakhaBrakha weaves ancient Ukrainian folk melodies into a subversive musical tapestry that embraces indie rock\, pop\, hip hop\, the avant-garde\, and traditional instrumentation from around the world. With a name (ДахаБраха) that translates as “give/take” in old Ukrainian\, the quartet began over a decade ago as the musical component of avant-garde stage performances at the DAKH Theater in Kyiv\, cementing the group’s arresting visual image and signature theatrics. \nDahkaBrakha has honed a haunting musical approach based around unearthly vocal harmonies and thunderous percussion\, augmented by floating cello and accordion sonorities. Heralded by Rolling Stone as the “Best Breakout” performers at 2014’s Bonnaroo festival\, the band calls their music “ethno-chaos\,” a moniker that perfectly describes their fearless appropriation of African\, Asian\, Arabic and Western influences in the creation of their singular sound.
