FirstWorks hosted a live Professional Development Workshop via Zoom with composer, violinist, educator and activist Dr. Daniel Bernard Roumain for 40 local educators and artists. This session, titled “Teaching Tolerance with Music,” explored an arts integration approach for K-12 educators in the age of COVID-19, addressing community anxieties and pain points and brainstorming imaginative ways to engage students in the arts given our newfound circumstances. Roumain was joined by esteemed artist-educators Liz Lerman and Michael Rohd, who offered insights on generating positivity and buy-in during online learning, and the artist’s skillset as a creative problem solver which can be leveraged for social good during times of crisis.
