Experience the soul-lifting sounds of Mali with Grammy winner Oumou Sangaré, hailed as the greatest living female voice in African music, and master drummer Sidy Maiga.

An outspoken activist for women’s rights, the “songbird of Wassoulou” Oumou Sangaré raises her voice to build awareness for women’s issues in Africa. The raw power of her stirring and soulful voice inspires audiences around the world to be stronger, together. A UN Goodwill Ambassador, her humanitarian work has earned her the Artist Award at WOMEX 2017 and the 2001 IMC-UNESCO International Music Prize.

Teaming up once again with acclaimed djembefola Sidy Maiga and his superb, five-piece band, the two Malian masters craft an immersive experience as they introduce us to the passions behind their long-time collaboration, breaking boundaries and borders as they bring their music and message to the world.

Filmed in Providence’s own Waterfire Arts Center, this exclusive concert kicked off FirstWorks’ fall 2020 season of virtual stage programming, bringing a world of music into homes when traditional venues were shuttered. Premiered September 17, 2020 on Facebook and YouTube Live.
