Three Nights of Lights partner extends festivities in Downtown Providence

Providence, RI—FirstWorks, a Providence-based nonprofit dedicated to connecting art with audiences, announced today that due to refrigeration issues at the Providence Rink, the ice will not be ready in time for FirstWorks’ scheduled performances featuring Montreal’s Le Patin Libre for the Three Nights of Lights festival this Thursday, December 1, 2022.  FirstWorks has rescheduled Le Patin Libre for Thursday, December 8, 2022 with three free performances at 6:00, 7:00, and 8:00 p.m. at The BankNewport City Center/Providence Rink, followed by an ice-skating dance party until 9:30 p.m.

WHAT: Three performances of “Carte Blanche” followed by an ice-skating dance party
WHEN: New Date: Thursday, December 8, 2022. Half-hour shows at 6:00 p.m., 7:00 p.m., and 8:00 p.m. Ice-skating dance party from 8:30-9:30 p.m.
WHERE: The BankNewport City Center/Providence Rink at 2 Kennedy Plaza, Downtown Providence, RI
HOW: Free and open to the public, with skate rentals available
WHY: Le Patin Libre (French for “Free Skate”) are pioneers of contemporary skating who defy stereotypes, transforming athleticism into a means of free expression. Founded in Montréal by former high-level figure skaters, the company wields ice, skates and glide as pure mediums of artistic storytelling.

An outdoor video projection of “FirstWorks’ Urban Carnevale – a musical celebration,” will continue as planned during Three Nights of Lights on Friday, December 2 from 5-9:00 p.m. on the façade of Trinity Rep, on Empire Street across from the Providence Public Library in downtown Providence. For more information visit firstworks.org.

WHY: The performance film was created in December 2020 in partnership with Steer PVD and is a celebration of Providence’s talent, tenacity and creativity.

For “Three Nights of Lights,” FirstWorks joins forces with WaterFire Providence, The Avenue Concept, the Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau and the City of Providence to launch a signature holiday event for the Creative Capital. “Three Nights of Lights” will be held December 1–3, 2022 and will feature performances, three partial WaterFires, a series of events centered around the illumination of many of Providence’s murals, and holiday tree lightings.
