Dear Friends,
Two decades in, FirstWorks has created moments of discovery that lift spirits, open minds, and renew our joy in being together—on park blankets, dancing in the street, or seated in a theater.
Beside the water at Roger Williams Park Boathouse, Etienne Charles and his remarkable ensemble carried us from the somber remembrance of Watch Night into joy—dancing together, Trinidadian style.
Whether you experience the work or make it possible through your support, you are part of every encounter.
Across Rhode Island, we weave the social fabric through the arts—from PVDFest and Summer Beats to public school classrooms and the Providence Holiday Festival. Enduring artist relationships propel FirstWorks into the future: the Silkroad Ensemble, founded by Yo-Yo Ma, returned to fill The VETS with music and history for a new generation.
As FirstWorks carries innovation forward, my role evolves but my commitment remains constant. I am proud of this constellation of artists, audiences, partners, and supporters who make these indelible moments possible.
With gratitude,

Kathleen Pletcher, Executive Artistic Director
